Graduate students visit Simango

After an exciting week with 10 Israeli graduate students led by Professor Noam Weisbrod from our home, Sde Boker, we have managed to drill a well next to a small dam that is used by the local community school for drinking. Now, children and other households can drink from an “improved” water source that should be free from contamination.

Also, we conducted a random drinking water survey of 99 households in our area, and were able to test their water sources and containers for Fecal Coliforms using a simple and effective kit called “Collisure.” The results so far are staggering: of the 58% of households that get clean water at the source, not more than 35% manage to keep that water free from fecal contamination by the time they drink it.

We hope that the drilling program and the low-cost sand filters will be able to make a positive impact on the situation.
